Director Nate Lord had been working as a story consultant to Producer Viki Lulu remotely, so when he received a chance to work on set in China on their latest collaboration, he went for what would be three of the most crazy months of his life. The project was far from ready, and upon arrival he found himself tirelessly working and reworking the story and script to fully secure the project before the production was to begin shooting in one month. Unfortunately the patrons soon withdrew their offer, and Nate was left in China without a film, job, or a way to return home.
Disheartened and eventually abandoned in a country where he didn’t speak the language, Nate took the opportunity to meet and befriend his fellow contributors on the lost project, sparking close friendships that would eventually lead to him securing a ticket to Taiwan where most of them reside. There he was brought into another consulting job on a three-short-film project that was to promote a local real-estate developer, and after presenting his notes was asked if he wanted to direct one of the shorts. It was an opportunity he couldn’t deny, and after re-teaming up with his producer and other artisans from the previous project, he organized and shot his film in three days. With tenacity and determination, this American director worked with the entirely Asian cast and crew to bring this dream to fruition.
The three films were not exactly what the real-estate mogul was looking for and they decided to let the project go. With the visa expiring Nate found himself finally able to return to the States with only a hard drive full of footage. Exhausted but optimistic, Nate teamed up with his brother, Chris Lord, who offered invaluable support and insight that eventually led to the final edit, sound, and passion that is “UnFolding Love.”
